Niall trained with Joelson and upon qualifying as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2003, joined its Litigation & Dispute Resolution team and the Licensing, Gaming and Regulatory Team in 2005. He now jointly heads the latter.

Niall is a Ranked Lawyer in Chambers and Partners for Licensing work which has sources saying: “Niall is very approachable, has a good sense of humour and is a first-rate strategist”.

Niall undertakes all aspects of licensing and gaming and associated regulatory/planning law. He regularly appears as an advocate before courts and local authority sub-committees throughout England and Wales.

Litigation & Dispute Resolution

Niall handles a broad range of civil litigation, including contractual disputes, professional negligence claims, breach of warranty claims, competition law and complaints, judicial reviews, landlord and tenant disputes, and insolvency matters.

Key Transactions include

  • Dealing with licensing matters arising from a pre-pack sale of a major chain of bars which involved making approximately 75 applications in one day, drafting the due diligence report and negotiating the share purchase agreement.
  • Successfully defending a highly contested review application brought by numerous local residents.
  • Obtaining a new premises licence for a large restaurant/bar in the City of Westminster’s West End Stress Area outside of Core Hours.
  • Successfully settling a professional negligence claim in respect of advice given by an insolvency practitioner in respect of lapsed premises licences.
