The Chancellor has provided some much welcomed relief to both employees and workers by extending the current government furlough scheme to October 2020.
Whilst the scheme will continue as normal for the next few months, from August 2020 employers will be permitted to bring employees back to work on a part-time basis whilst they remain on furlough leave. This flexibility will enable employers to start phasing employees back into the workplace without losing financial support from the government. It is anticipated that during this second phase of the furlough scheme, employers and the government will be able to share the cost of the employees’ monthly wage.
Following the easing of the lockdown restrictions this week, we shall shortly be providing guidance to employers on how to work safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
